Yesterday I talked about the actual steps to form habits with an example of reading book in this article. I hope reading that article will help you actually build habits. The most important thing that I said in that article is:

Habits just can’t be formed or removed. They need to be replaced with current ones.

So what we will do is replace the bad ones with good ones, and I taught you how to in that article. Today we will be deep diving in the topic of breaking a bad habit. Rules are simple. You just have to invert them.

Here are the steps to actually break a bad habit:

  1. Make Cue Invisible: Let’s take an example of breaking too many reels and TikTok videos. You obviously watch them in your smartphone. So, turn off the notifications and if you want to go hardcore, just delete the app. The other thing you can do is place your smartphone elsewhere while working so that it doesn’t disturb your work. You can also place a time limit for the usage of app.
  2. Make Craving Unattractive: At first, you will have craving of watching those cute and funny TikTok videos. You just have to make it ugly. Make using your TikTok full of hassles. You can place a math quiz lock on the app or any app lock methods. If you don’t have TikTok in your smartphone, then use TikTok in laptop. It just doesn’t give you the same hit of fun and make s watching them boring.
  3. Make Response Difficult: You can follow the same steps as above to make your response difficult. You can take help from your friends to take your phone while work and ask them to not give it to you while work.
  4. Make Result Unsatisfying:You can actually find an amount of time loss using TikToks, and think about the productive things that you could have done instead of that. Being self-aware of this loss makes you longer crave the end result of watching those videos.

This is the one way to do it. If you no longer want to watch those videos, I suggest you uninstall the app. Replace habit of watching TikToks with watching educational videos on YouTube. For that, take help of this article.
